Andrew J. Liska practices in the areas of general business litigation including construction and real property disputes, trust and probate litigation, elder abuse, landlord-tenant, corporate and partnership disputes. In the area of trust and probate litigation Mr. Liska represents trustees, professional fiduciaries, beneficiaries and creditors as well as individuals with elder abuse claims. Mr. Liska has also practiced extensively in complex bankruptcy litigation. His practice includes state and federal courts and state court appeals. Mr. Liska served as an arbitrator for the Fee Arbitration Committee of the San Diego County Bar Association and served for more than 20 years as a Judge Pro Tempore with the San Diego Superior Court. He continues to serve as a settlement judge in Probate Mandatory Settlement Conferences.
Mr. Liska has been a guest lecturer at USD School of Law, Small Claims Clinic, and was a member of the American Inns of Court, William B. Enright Chapter, (Associate Member 1994-1995, Barrister member 1999-2001). Mr. Liska was a classroom presenter (SDUSD) – Children at Risk program, San Diego County Bar Association (2002 to 2011), a mentor with the Lyceum Program, San Diego County Bar Association (2008) and is a graduate of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Citizens Academy (in partnership with the S.D. County Sheriff’s Department). He is also active in the San Diego Rotary Club.
Mr. Liska holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego. A graduate of the University of San Diego, School of Law (J.D. cum laude 1987), Mr. Liska was a member of the 1986-87 USD Appellate Moot Court Board national team, and served as a teacher’s assistant, as a legal research specialist and an oral advocacy specialist. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1987, and is admitted to practice in the Southern, Central, Eastern and Northern Districts of California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Representative cases
Represented a financial institution in a two week jury trial that resulted in a $4,500,000 judgment against the defendant and defense verdict on the defendant’s $36,000,000 cross claim against the financial institution.
Represented a party in a financial elder abuse case. Following a five day jury trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict with findings by clear and convincing evidence on financial elder abuse claims and punitive damages. The case settled for $450,000.
Settled a negligence claim for $2,800,000.
Settled a trust contest which resulted in the favorable resolution of a $3,000,000 claim against the trust.
Resolved a $1,800,000 claim against a trust estate that resulted in a dismissal by the claimant for no payment or other consideration by the trust.
Obtained a $650,000 settlement in a complex construction case in San Diego.
Settled a trust dispute that resulted in $312,000 recovery for Mr. Liska’s clients.
Tried a partnership dispute and obtained a judgment of dissolution of two partnerships and the sale of a magazine for $6,250,000 and obtained approximately $1,750,000 for Mr. Liska’s client.
Obtained a judgment for partition of a commercial property. The judgment was affirmed on appeal and Mr. Liska’s client recovered approximately $825,000 plus attorney fees and costs.
Filed suit against several insurance companies including European underwriters of an aviation insurance policy. The case settled for $1,200,000.
Settled a trust contest that resulted in a payment to Mr. Liska’s client of $300,000.
Represented an SEC appointed receiver in a Ponzi scheme that resulted in a $4,250,000 settlement for the receivership estate.
Represented a bank in a landlord-tenant dispute and obtained a judgment for the bank that was affirmed on appeal. Mr. Liska’s client recovered all of its damages including attorney fees through trial and appeal.
